SPOT FISHING GOOD FOR EARLY RISERS

Spot-fishing improved somewhat on northern beach piers Friday.

A few nice spot and scattered sea mullet were taken on Kitty Hawk Pier. Most were caught in the morning.

Avalon Pier reported a few small bluefish, Spanish mackerel, spot and perch landed during the day.

A few croaker and bluefish were taken from Nags Head Pier.

Anglers on Jennette's Pier caught a few spot throughout the day.

Outer Banks Pier reported a good run of nice spot on the south side of the pier. Action was good for most of the morning. Afternoon fishing was slow.

On Hatteras Island, Rodanthe Pier fishermen caught a few small bluefish, puppy drum and spot.

A handful of small bottom fish, gray trout and bluefish were landed on Avon Pier.

Sea mullet fishing was good on Frisco Pier Friday afternoon. Fair numbers of spot also were taken.

A few small bottom fish, small bluefish and an occasional trout were landed by surfcasters from Corolla to Oregon Inlet Friday.

Some nice flounder, tailor blues and a few bottom fish were taken around Oregon Inlet.

Scattered bluefish were caught in the surf from Rodanthe to Buxton.

Spanish mackerel were taken at Cape Point along with a few flounder, pompano and sea mullet.

Tailor blues and keeper flounder were beaches from the Hatteras Inlet surf.

Limits of king mackerel and plenty of albacore were taken by inshore charters off Oregon Inlet. Headboats around the inlet caught pigfish, flounder and sea bass.

Blue water action off Oregon Inlet was slow Friday. Scattered tuna, a few dolphin and several wahoo were taken. Two big eye tuna, both with estimated weights of 150 pounds, were landed by the Sea Troy.

King mackerel fishing was good off Hatteras. Gulf Stream charters landed a few dolphin, wahoo and tuna.

The water temperature was 71 degrees Friday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 75 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
