VIRGINIA K. SOHMER

Virginia Kaplan Sohmer, 91, of the 7300 block of Glenroie Ave., died Oct. 12, 1997, in a Norfolk hospital.

Mrs. Sohmer was a native and lifelong resident of Norfolk. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Celia Kaplan and was the widow of Henry R. Sohmer. She was a member of Ohef Sholom Temple in Norfolk and a former treasurer of its sisterhood. Mrs. Sohmer was a former vice president of the Council of Jewish Women; and she was a graduate of Maury High School Class of 1922.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol S. Press and her husband, J. Jeffrey of Upper Montclair, N.J.; a son, Allan J. Fernheimer and his wife, Carol of Virginia Beach; a stepdaughter, Carola S. Meller and her husband, Irwin of New Canaan, Conn.; a sister, Sadie K. Kirstein of Washington, D.C.; and five grandchildren, Stanley, Steven and Michael Fernheimer, Robin and Stephanie Press; two step-grandchildren, Louise and John Meller; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Forest Lawn Cemetery by Rabbi Lawrence A. Forman and Cantor Jenifer Bern-Vogel. Memorial donations may be made to the Ohef Sholom Temple Floral Fund or the Rita Cogan Service to Youth Fund. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, will be handling the arrangements.
