SIDNEY R. EVANS SR.

Sidney R. Evans Sr., 55, of the 200 block of E. Indian River Road, died Oct. 10, 1997, in a local hospital.

Born in Halifax County, N.C., he retired from the International Longshoreman's Association 1248 three years ago after 32 years of service.

Survivors include his estranged wife, Ann L. Evans; three daughters, Marilyn Gutierrez, Shelethia R. Evans and Veronica Beasley, all of Chesapeake; four sons, Sidney C. Evans Jr. of Norfolk, Kenneth R. Evans and Shawn L. Evans, both of Chesapeake, and Carl Revell of Washington, D.C.; his mother, Corine Davis Evans of Chesapeake; three sisters, Juanita Evans Bryant of Portsmouth, Lorine Evans Hardy and Patricia Evans, both of Chesapeake; five brothers, Emanuel Evans, Eugene Evans, Marvin Evans and Melvin Evans, all of Chesapeake, and Amos R. Evans of Norfolk; 16 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a daughter-in-law, Marcie Revell; a brother-in-law, Vernon Hardy; three sisters-in-law, Rena F. Evans, Erma C. Evans and Rosalee J. Evans; seven aunts and seven uncles; and a host of other relatives and many friends. He was predeceased by his father, Amos Evans.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Mount Lebanon Baptist Church by Dr. Ronnie Joyner. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. A wake service will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Metropolitan Funeral Service. Family and friends will assemble at 224 E.
