NELLIE W. EDWARDS

Nellie Manchester Wilson Edwards, 91, of the 2200 block of Nashville Ave. died Oct. 14, 1997, in Maryview Medical Center.

A native of Portsmouth, she was a homemaker and the widow of John R. Edwards. Mrs. Edwards was a member of First Baptist Church, West Norfolk, Portsmouth, participating as a member of the usher board and Tidewater Missionary Society and as a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the Women's Forum of Portsmouth, NAACP and many other community organizations.

Survivors include four daughters, Bernice Wilson and Nellie Edwards, of Boston, Carolyn Edwards of Brooklyn, Marian Ash of Portsmouth; four sons, John Edwards of Ocala, Fla., James Edwards of Atlanta, Roland Edwards of Providence, R.I., Eddie Edwards of Boston; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. She was predeceased by a son, Alvin Edwards.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church, West Norfolk, by the Rev. John O. Ponder III, pastor, and the Rev. Stephen Adams. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. Rogers Funeral Home is handling arrangements. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
