ANGLING FROM THE PIERS BRINGS MOSTLY GOOD RESULTS

Pier fishing along the Dare coast was good at most locations Wednesday.

A few small bluefish and puppy drum were landed during the morning on Kitty Hawk Pier. Good numbers of mixed sizes of spot were landed in the afternoon.

Fishing was quite a bit slower on Avalon Pier, where a few bluefish and albacore were taken.

Nags Head Pier reported a variety of fish taken, including a few albacore, keeper flounder, 12- to 14-inch bluefish, small pompano and a handful of nice spot.

Little action was reported on Jennette's Pier, where only a few small flounder were hooked and released.

Plenty of small flounder, small puppy drum, and 10 to 15 undersized striped bass were released during the afternoon.

South of Oregon Inlet, nine king mackerel and several jacks were caught on live bait during the morning on Hatteras Island Fishing Pier in Rodanthe. A few flounder also were landed. Afternoon action was slow.

Sea mullet, a few flounder and a few puppy drum were taken during the morning on Avon Pier. Small sharks dominated afternoon fishing.

Sea mullet fishing was good on Frisco Pier throughout the day. Some small pompano, a few Spanish mackerel and a few nice flounder were also taken.

Surf fishermen beached scattered small bottom fish and a few bluefish along the northern beaches and around Oregon Inlet.

A few bluefish and sea mullet were caught by surfcasters from Rodanthe to Buxton.

A few yearling drum were landed at Cape Point Tuesday night. Jacks and flounder were caught at Cape Point Wednesday on live bait.

Some pretty puppy drum and sea mullet were taken along the beach between Ramp 43 and Cape Point. Small pompano were landed on the south beach.

Surf fishermen caught a few keeper flounder and pompano from Ramp 55 to Hatteras Inlet.

Blue water action was slow off Oregon Inlet, with only a few tuna taken. Sea bass and triggerfish were taken by the Country Girl on a wreck-fishing trip.

Wahoo action was great and king mackerel fishing was good off Hatteras Wednesday. A 40-pound king mackerel was landed by the Good Times on a half-day trip. Scattered dolphin also were taken by the offshore fleet. The Top Billin' released a sailfish.

The water temperature was 71 degrees Wednesday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 75 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
