Benny Simpkins Sr., 58, of the 100 block of Byrd St. died Oct. 14, 1997, in Sentara Norfolk General.
A native of Mingo County, W.Va., he worked as a maintenance supervisor with Smithfield Packing. He was the son of the late Elliott Simpkins and Levisa Chafin Simpkins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Ray Simpkins and Edgar Simpkins; and two sisters, Kathleen S. Cisco and Dimple S. Stacy.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jean Babb Simpkins; daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte S. and Japheth E. Rawls III and Gail S. and Brian S. Wyatt, all of Suffolk; a son and daughter-in-law, Benny and Elizabeth B. Simpkins Jr. of Suffolk; sisters, Juanita Simpkins, Joan Griffin, and Blanche Simpkins, all of Suffolk; grandchildren, Japheth E. Rawls IV and Brittany C. Rawls, Lindsey B. Wyatt and Katelyn E. Simpkins, all of Suffolk.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Harrell Funeral Home by the Rev. Michael Halley. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery.
