GERNOAH N. PURNELL JR.

Gernoah N. Purnell Jr., 20, of the 2600 block of Vincent Ave., died Oct. 14, 1997.

A Norfolk native, he was the son of Gernoah N. Purnell Sr. and the late Rae Holmes Purnell. He was a chef's assistant at the Yukon Steak House. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Lamberts Point. He was educated in the Norfolk public school system and received his GED and training in the Job Corps, Pittsburgh, Pa.

Survivors include two brothers, Terry Holmes of Roanoke, Va., and Gerrod Craft of Norfolk; two aunts, Lula Scott Lewis and Dorothy Scott Thompson, both of Norfolk; one great-uncle, Samuel I. Thomas of Virginia Beach; two uncles, Jerome Purnell of Norfolk and Dr. Ernest Holmes of Oxon Hill, Md.; and a host of other relatives and special friends.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in First Baptist Church, Lamberts Point, by the Rev. Anthony C. Paige. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence. The body will be placed in church at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Viewing will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Riddick Funeral Service.
