LOCAL SCENE

NORFOLK

SNYDER NAMED CHIEF ENGINEER AND DIRECTOR OF PORT DEVELOPMENT: The Virginia Port Authority appointed Steven S. Snyder chief engineer and director of port development. He will provide engineering expertise in the planning, design, construction and maintenance of The Port of Virginia's terminal facilities. He was most recently manager of the Structural and Waterfront Facilities Bureau for the Norfolk.

MYERS EXPANDS PRACTICE: Attorney Philip H. Myers has added members Joseph W. Myers and Anna Hughes Myers. Both are graduates of the T.C. Williams School of Law. The firm will be known as Myers, Myers and Myers.

LAKIN NAMED DIRECTOR OF WEEKEND COLLEGE: Mary Beth Lakin was named the director of Old Dominion University's Weekend College and Experimental Learning Program. She will work with Old Dominion's academic colleges, community organizations, corporations and students to direct and continue to develop the university's Weekend College program. She was assistant director of the division of lifelong learning in Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala.

VIRGINIA BEACH

TAF GROUP GETS CONTRACT: The TAF Group has won the civil engineering contract for the gated retirement community planned for the campus of Pat Robertson's Christian Broadcasting Network. The Beach-based architectural, engineering, surveying and design-build group is negotiating its fee, said Don MacLennan, the firm's director of engineering. The $100 million Founders Village upscale retirement community will cover 60 acres, with construction beginning next year.

HAMPTON ROADS

GOODWILL APPOINTS WINDLEY HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR: Neal S. Windley, former assistant city manager in Norfolk and Chesapeake, was named human resources director for Goodwill Industries of Hampton Roads. Salvatore A. Ruberto was appointed director of retail sales and marketing and Wayne S. Champagnie, director of operations. Ruberto was with Art Van Furniture in Grand Rapids, Mich., and Champagnie is part owner of TAL Enterprises, a telemarketing firm in Virginia Beach.
