Pier fishing was excellent at most locations along the Outer Banks Friday.
Kitty Hawk Pier reported plenty of spot taken during the morning. Action slowed as the tide fell, but fishing was good again after the tide started in.
Fishing was slow on Avalon Pier, with only a few bottom fish taken.
A few nice spot, speckled trout, croaker and bluefish were landed on Nags Head Pier. Some 16-inch puppy drum were released.
Anglers on Jennette's Pier caught quite a few bluefish, a few nice 2-pound croaker and scattered small pompano. Some small puppy drum were released.
Plenty of spot, a few pompano and some 18-inch bluefish were taken by fishermen on Outer Banks Pier throughout the day.
South of Oregon Inlet, Rodanthe Pier reported slow fishing during the morning but good spot and sea mullet catches in the afternoon.
Plenty of sea mullet, some gray trout, spot and a few pompano were taken on Avon Pier, mostly during the afternoon.
Frisco Pier also reported terrific sea mullet fishing during the afternoon. Additionally, a few keeper flounder and a 4 1/2-pound black drum were taken.
Bluefish and lots of throwback puppy drum were landed in the surf along the northern beaches and around Oregon Inlet.
Little action was reported along the beach from Rodanthe to Buxton because of rough seas.
A few yearling drum and one big drum were landed at Cape Point early Friday morning. Scattered gray trout, flounder and some black drum were beached by surf fishermen south of Cape Point.
Anglers fishing the Hatteras Inlet area caught trout and bluefish Thursday night. Spot, croaker, sea mullet, toadfish and a few trout were hauled in by surfcasters from behind the Frisco motels to Hatteras Inlet Friday.
No offshore or inshore trips were run off Oregon Inlet Friday because of the weather.
Charters off Hatteras caught scattered king mackerel and good numbers of wahoo.
The water temperature was 68 degrees Friday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 72 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
