INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL A PALETTE OF ETHNIC FEASTS

Dear Editor:

Saturday, Oct. 4, I took my two PAX Brazilian exchange students, Bruno Mored from Sorocaba and Fred Werneck from Niteroi, to the International Festival held at the Raleigh Civic and Convention Center.

It was a great experience to see ``The Wonders of the World'' there, and I especially enjoyed the lively and entertaining ethnic dances performed on the center stage, particularly the Russian Cossack dancers from Kolomna, Russia, and the Filipino dance group, who performed the bamboo dance involving two dancers stepping in and out quickly as the two long bamboo poles were opened and closed in quick succession. I might add that there was ample opportunity to try the many different foods of the world.

My Brazilian students enjoyed their ``back home'' Brazilian Estrogonofe special beef with mushrooms plate, and I savored the Oriental foods such as sushi and Kim Chee. I should have tried some of the Middle East foods, such as stuffed grape leaves.

All in all, it was a wondrous international experience there!
