Henry Sumner Sr., 65, of 1517 Conoga St., passed away Oct. 20, 1997, at Sentara Bayside General Hospital, Virginia Beach.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Betty O. Sumner, of the residence. He worked at the Naval Supply Center, Norfolk, for 27 years until he became disabled in 1979.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Regina Key and Rose Williams and her husband, Ronald, of Chesapeake, Linda Sumner and Gail Hopkins of Norfolk, Sherrie Sawyer and her husband, Bernard, of Sterling, Va., Barbara Dickerson and her husband, Gordie, of San Diego, Peggy Foreman of Richmond, Rena Foreman, Alice of Virginia Beach; a son, Henry Sumner Jr. and wife, Dorothy, of Virginia Beach; four brothers, Herbert Sumner, Lloyd Sumner, James Sumner and Andrew Sumner; three sisters, Vivian Bly, Dorothy Sumner and Lily Sumner; mother-in-law, Alice Wells; grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church Campostella by the Rev. Harold Cason. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake.
