August Joseph ``Joe'' Stefkovich Sr., 80, of the 4300 block of Neptune Ave., died Oct. 20, 1997, in Norfolk.
Born in Morgantown, W.Va., he was retired from the U.S. Navy after 33 years of service and also as a maintenance supervisor of Tidewater Rehabilitation. He was an assistant manager with St. Matthews Federal Credit Union, a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church and the Legion of Mary.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta S. Stefkovich; two daughters, Linda Jo Miller of Lexington Park, Md., and Stephanie A. Stefkovich of Norfolk; two sons, Michael E. Stefkovich of Dayton, Ohio, and August J. Stefkovich Jr. of Lusby, Md.; a sister, Ann Lewis of Morgantown; a brother, Steve Wayne of Cleveland, Ohio; six grandchildren, Lisa Riddell, Brad Miller, Jennifer McCauley, Jessica Brinkley, Jonathan Stefkovich and Katie Stefkovich; a step-grandchild, Julie Caton; three great-grandchildren, Lauren and Matthew Riddell and Jason McCauley.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Matthews Catholic Church by Fr. Timothy Drake. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, with a prayer service to be held at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association or St. Matthews Catholic Church.
