BEACH POLICE SERGEANT WITH BRAIN TUMOR DIES

A police sergeant, diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor after suffering a seizure at work on Friday, died early Tuesday.

Charles ``Chuck'' Osborn, 40, was a supervisor at the Fourth Precinct. A former Norfolk officer, Osborn had served 15 years with the Virginia Beach Police Department.

He was in a staff meeting Friday when the seizure occurred. Doctors at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital diagnosed the tumor and planned radiation treatments. However, his condition worsened during the weekend, and he died around dawn Tuesday.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Lisa, and their 12-year-old son, Blake.

While with Virginia Beach, Osborn worked in the First, Second and Fourth precincts, and in the Detective Bureau.

He joined the department March 1, 1982, and became a sergeant seven years later.

The department's officers are wearing their badges draped with black ribbons in Osborn's memory. Funeral arrangements are still being decided. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
