Patricia Magee, the head of human resources for the school district, has resigned from her job effective today. Magee cited family reasons for her sudden departure.
She is the third assistant superintendent to leave the district in the past four months. The others include Lindell Wallace, the assistant superintendent for middle school education, and Albert J. Williams, the assistant superintendent for high school education.
Magee joined the district staff 16 months ago.
Her appointment as head of the district's human resources department surprised manybecause she did not have a college degree. School Board members agreed to Magee's appointment because of Superintendent Timothy R. Jenney's confidence in her.
Magee previously worked with Jenney in Tulsa, Okla. She has also worked as a vice president for corporate administration with a gas pipeline company, a human resources director for an aerospace manufacturer and a consultant.
But the school district's human resources department drew fire this summer after a series of teacher transfers. Parents turned out in force to protest the transfers, and after weeks of flak, a few teachers were allowed to stay in place.
Asked if Magee had been pressured to resign, Jenney said, ``Absolutely not.''
Magee could not be reached for comment.
Eddie P. Antoine II, human resources coordinator for the Beach schools, will step into Magee's position for now.
Sheila Magula, assistant superintendent for elementary education, will move into the middle school superintendent's role. KEYWORDS: RESIGNATION VIRGINIA BEACH SCHOOLS
