MODERN DANCE COMPANY STAGES ``AUTUMN COLORS''

Gutsy. Airborne. Elegant. Humorous.

That's how Beverly Duane describes the inspirational modern dance pieces on tap for the Second Wind Dance Company's performance Saturday at the Unitarian Church of Norfolk.

The production, titled ``Autumn Colors,'' will feature dancing and original choreography by two innovative dance artists, Todd Rosenlieb and Stacy Sagely.

Rosenlieb is director of the renowned New York City Erick Hawkins Dance Company and guest principal dancer for companies throughout the East Coast. Also an instructor at the Governor's School for the Arts, he has worked with Mikhail Baryshnikov.

Sagely is a former principal dancer for the Isaacs, McCaleb & Dancers modern dance troupe in San Diego and a former dance instructor at several California universities. She recently joined Second Wind as a permanent member of the company.

Rosenlieb and dancer Kathryn Finney will perform his original work titled, ``Thrift Store Tango.'' The humorous piece gives a modern twist to the traditional tango.

Sagely's work, ``Winds,'' symbolizes the freedoms American women have gained during the last few centuries, said Duane. Sagely will join Finney and Duane as dancers in the piece.

Sagely also will perform a solo work, titled ``Heartbreak,'' choreographed by Jean Isaacs of the San Diego company.

The final selection in the production will be ``Pathos,'' a ``jubilant piece'' accompanied by musical excerpts from Handel's ``Messiah.''

The Chesapeake-based company specializes in performances that ``provoke, advocate and scintillate'' through the integration of visual arts, drama and music. In past performances, the troupe has explored such contemporary social issues as eating disorders, spiritual worship, world hunger and child abuse.

The Saturday performance will be followed by a wine and cheese reception with members of the company. Admission price for both the show and reception is $25 per person or $45 for couples.
