HERMAN A. MAYS

Herman ``Dick'' Anderson Mays, 70, of Shoulders Hill Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1997, in Maryview Medical Center.

Mr. Mays was a native of Pittsylvania County, Va., and the son of the late Claude and Florence Mays. He was retired from Norshipco Plate Shop and was a U.S. Marine veteran. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 44 and the Moose Lodge No. 39.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Mays; a daughter, Krista Mays; a stepdaughter, Gina Gillis, all of Sufolk; three stepsons, Richard Spurlock of Suffolk, David Spurlock of Chesapeake and Jeff Spurlock of Naples, Fla.; six grandchildren, Kathryn Spurlock, Angela Spurlock and Brent Nagle, all of Chesapeake, Georgie Davis of Suffolk, and Ricky Mays and Tracy Mays of Virginia Beach; two brothers, George Mays of Rustburg, Va., and Frank Mays of Gretna, Va.; fours sisters, Virginia Jacobs of Petersburg, Va., Adell Adams and Peggy Faris, both of Gretna, and Marylou Clay of Hurt, Va.

The family will receive friends in the in Colbert and Moran Funeral Home, Gretna, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the funeral home by the Rev. Richard Jones. Burial will follow in the Mays Cemetery. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
