MARTHA L. JOHNSON

Martha L. Johnson of the 700 block of Denison Ave. died Oct. 20, 1997, in her residence.

Born in Gates County, N.C., she worked in food services for the U.S. Public Health Hospital and was a member of Bethel Apostolic Church, Chesapeake. She was the widow of James E. Johnson.

Survivors include her daughter, Helen Mack of Norfolk; a foster daughter, Ernestine Jennings of Durham, N.C.; a foster son, Timothy Stepney of Kileen, Texas; six sisters, Rosa Bage, Arrida Young and Georgetta Grain, all of Surrey, Va., Mildred Robertson of Smithfield, Ruby Smith of Newport News and Daphnia Savage of Seattle, Wash.; a brother, Elder John E. Savage of Norfolk; a foster brother, Robert L. Doles of Portsmouth; a grandson, Donnis E. Mack of Alexandria, Va.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be at noon Saturday in the Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, Surrey, by Elder George Wooden. Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery. The remains will be ready for viewing at 3 p.m. Friday. The family will assemble at 9:45 a.m. for the procession. The family will receive friends at 771 Denison Ave. Carlos A.
