CHARLES H. GWALTNEY SR.

Charles H. ``Charlie'' Gwaltney Sr., 85, of the 8800 block of Semmes Ave. died Oct. 21, 1997.

Born in Chuckatuck, Va., he was a retired, self-employed home builder and a member of Ocean View Baptist Church. He was known to many young people as ``Uncle Charlie'' who drove the red truck to the Kempsville Baseball Field for so many years.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Sue Gwaltney; a daughter, Linda Smithson of Newport News; two sons, Charles H. Gwaltney Jr. of Roanoke, Va., and Ronald L. Gwaltney of Virginia Beach; a brother, Delbert Morris of Chincoteague, Va.; five grandchildren, Amber Smithson of Arlington, Va., Melanie Gwaltney of Roanoke, Nathan Gwaltney, Meghan Gwaltney, and Cameron Gwaltney, all of Virginia Beach; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Friday in Rosewood Memorial Park by Dr. David N. Clayton. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel.
