HAMPTON ROADS

FUN PACKAGE GENERATES $1.6 MILLION IN SPENDING: The Family Fun Package wrapped up the 1997 tourist season with 1,200 vacation packages sold, generating more than $1.6 million in tourist spending in Hampton Roads. While package sales remained unchanged from last year, consumer interest was up 20 percent with 37,800 inquiries. The program had a total financial impact of $12 million in spending in other parts of the region and state, and bookings independent of the package offer, based on a survey conducted by Continental Research. The Family Fun Package features a four-day/three-night vacation at a choice of hotels throughout the region; a complimentary breakfast each day; and unlimited access to Busch Gardens and Water Country USA in Williamsburg, the Virginia Air & Space Center in Hampton, Nauticus in Norfolk and the Virginia Marine Science Museum in Virginia Beach. For a family of four, packages start at $599.

ISENBERG TO RECEIVE AWARD: Susan Isenberg, owner of six NYFO Boutique stores in Virginia, is the winner of the 1997 ``Retailer of the Year'' award for multispecialty stores from the Apparel Mart in Atlanta. The D.I.V.A. (Design/Impact/Vision/Atlanta) Fashion Awards honor designers, journalists and specialty retailers who have had the most positive impact on the fashion world during that year.
