PIER ACTION BOTH GOOD AND BAD ALONG DARE COAST

Pier action along the Dare Coast was mixed Wednesday with some locations reporting good fishing and some reporting bad.

Anglers on Kitty Hawk Pier caught a few puppy drum.

Fishermen on Avalon Pier were scarce, as were the fish.

Nags Head Pier reported a few tailor bluefish landed and several small puppy drum released.

Small bluefish, croaker and a few keeper puppy drum were taken on Jennette's Pier.

Lots of puppy drum were landed on Outer Banks Pier but the majority were released since they were less than the required 18-inch minimum size limit.

On Hatteras Island, fishermen on Rodanthe Pier caught some spot and speckled trout. Scattered striped bass and small puppy drum were hooked and released.

A 26-pound red drum was decked on Avon Pier Tuesday night. Small bluefish and puppy drum were taken Wednesday.

Fishing was good on Frisco Pier with plenty of puppy drum landed, half of which were keepers. Also caught were some small blues, sea mullet, spot, flounder, blow toads and a few nice speckled trout.

Surf fishing was slow from Corolla to Buxton.

Some keeper puppy drum, a few nice flounder, tailor blues, small bottom fish and several black drum were beached at Cape Point.

Surf fishermen in the Hatteras Inlet area reported catches of small blues, trout, flounder and throw-back puppy drum.

Inshore trolling and blue water action was at a standstill Wednesday because of the windy weather.

The water temperature was 68 degrees Wednesday at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
