I would like to inform the Western Branch residents of the exemplary efforts that our councilman, John M. de Triquet, expended to accomplish a resolution of a problem I have been trying to resolve for 10 years. The maintenance of the medians on Bruin Drive have been neglected and ignored since I moved to Radcliffe Meadows 18 years ago.
When I contacted the city concerning the problem, I received many excuses why the medians didn't deserve more maintenance and upkeep.
Then the week before Christmas a drunken driver destroyed the stone facing to Radcliffe on Bruin Drive. Nothing was done to correct or repair the facing until I contacted Dr. de Triquet. Through his efforts we now have a new stone facing, and he was able to convince the city that because Bruin Drive is the main entrance to the Western Branch schools the medians warrant much more maintenance.
He took our problem without hesitation and accomplished in a few months what I had been trying to do for years. Truly, he is a caring councilman.

Our thanks to Don Combs and his staff at the Chesapeake Recreation Department for providing the superb benches at the Greenbrier public tennis courts.
Members of the over-the-hill gang that plays there every Tuesday and Thursday morning at are very appreciative, and I am sure this applies to all who use the facility.
Back in July I took the initiative to build rather simple benches for the courts. They lasted all of two days before they were displaced.
On calling the Recreation Department to complain, Mr. Combs soothed by irritation and consented to replace the benches and secure them in place. These have surely enhanced the courts.

After reading Paul White's article about Indian River High School's field hockey team (The Clipper, Oct. 12), we were disgusted with the outright spite and malice in which he wrote.
Our daughter plays for the Hickory High School team, and she was impressed with the determination and pride in which Indian River's team played. We wish the team well!
Mr. White's article did remind us of something, a golden rule: ``If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.''
