Abuse of the elderly

to be discussed

at Saturday meeting

Elder abuse is the subject of the Virginia Beach TRIAD and SALT (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together) meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday at Marian Manor Retirement Community.

TRIAD - the sheriff, police chief, AARP and older volunteers in the community who are committed to reducing criminal activity against senior citizens - was formed two years ago with SALT. SALT, with its 90-plus members, develops and implements crime prevention programs for seniors and serves as a liaison between law enforcement and seniors.

Membership is open to anyone in Hampton Roads.

``Our main function is education to assist the elderly in avoiding schemes, scams and frauds,'' said Bob Fall, vice chair of the TRIAD/SALT executive board.

Marian Manor is located behind St. Gregory's Catholic Church, off Virginia Beach Boulevard. For more information, call Fall at 464-4669 or the Virginia Beach Police Department's community policing officer at 563-1006.
