CARLTON SAWYER

Carlton Sawyer, 86, of 4639 Coronet Ave., died Thursday Oct. 23, 1997.

Mr. Sawyer was born in Newland, N.C., and was a Virginia Beach resident for more than 45 years. He was retired from Bayville Farms and was a Methodist. He was the son of the late David E. and Eva Edney Sawyer and the widower of Lizzie Long Sawyer.

Survivors include two sisters, Eva M. Williams of Newport News, Sarah Futrell of Portsmouth; a brother, Millard Sawyer of Elizabeth City; a stepson, Sherwood Sawyer of Smithfield, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Sawyer of Norfolk; three grandchildren, Theresa Sawyer of Smithfield, Va., Richard C. Sawyer, Sandra S. Jennings, both of Virginia Beach; four great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Highland Park Cemetery, Elizabeth City. The family will receive friends at Twiford's Northside Chapel, Elizabeth City, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
