ROSE'S STORES SOLD

Raleigh-based Variety Wholesalers Inc. announced Friday that it will acquire the struggling Rose's chain, which operates 106 variety stores throughout the Southeast, including Hampton Roads. Rose's Stores is a wholly owned subsidiary of Rose's Holdings Inc., based in Henderson, N.C. Privately held Variety, which operates about 500 stores in the Southeast, said it plans to operate Rose's Stores as a subsidiary. The deal, valued at about $15 million, must be approved by Rose's stockholders.
