Melvin Lee McCleese Sr., 65, of 3039 Welcome Road died Oct. 22, 1997, in the Kecoughtan Veterans Hospital.
He was a native of Columbia, N.C., and a veteran of the Korean War. Mr. McCleese was disabled in 1963 with a spinal injury. He will always be remembered by his beautiful garden which provided fresh vegetables for friends and family.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Doris E. McCleese. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, William, Melvin Jr., Patrick and Curtis McCleese, all of Chesapeake; a daughter, Shelia Couther of Norfolk; four sisters, Eunice Owens and Cleo Gibbs of North Carolina, and Vergie Shepherd and Doris McCleese of New York; two faithful stepsisters, Vermal Harrison and Annie Lee Hayes, both of Norfolk; 10 grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Monday in St. Mark U.C.C. by the Rev. Thomas Hart. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. A wake service will be held Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake. ILLUSTRATION: Photo KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
