Joseph Raymond Vaughan Sr., 99, of the 300 block of E. McGinnis Circle died Oct. 24, 1997, in a local hospital.
Born in Norfolk, he had retired from the U.S. Post Office after 49 years of service. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church, Norfolk Lodge No. 1, A.F. & A.M., Grice Commandery of Royal Arch Chapter No. 1, Norfolk Consistory, Scottish Rite Bodies, and Khedive Temple of the Shrine. He was a ``Kentucky Colonel'' and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War I. He was preceded in death by his wife, Selma Mae White Vaughan, and a son, Randall White Vaughan.
Survivors include his daughter, Katherine Lorraine Fincher of Silver Creek, Ga.; a son, Joseph Raymond Vaughan Jr. of Norfolk; a sister, Evelyn Boling Lynch of Norfolk; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Riverside Baptist Church, Norfolk, by the Rev. Warren Chapman. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Beaver Hill Cemetery, Edenton, N.C. A visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Riverside Baptist Church. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
