DAVID F. WHITLEY

David Franklin ``Papa'' Whitley, 72, of 31247 Vicksville Road, died Oct. 24, 1997.

Mr. Whitley was born in Isle of Wight County, a son of the late J.R. and Grace W. Whitley. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was the owner and operator of D & M Farms. He was a Shriner and member of the Purdie Masonic Lodge No. 170 A.F. & A.M. and a former member of the Burdette Black Creek Ruritan Club. He formerly served on the Southampton County FHA Board.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Christina ``Nana'' Williams Whitley; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Rob Carter of Franklin, June and Jobie Davenport of Windsor, N.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Betty Whitley of Sedley; an extended family, Phyllis and David L. Bradshaw, Frankie and Linda Newsome, all of Sedley; two brothers, Francis Whitley of Smithfield and Woodrow Whitley of Suffolk; 10 grandchildren, Carlton, Sharon, Mark and Brian Whitley, Patricia and Christy Fekete, Whitley and Brad Davenport, Troy Newsome and Stephanie Bradshaw; a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jennifer Bradshaw; two sisters and brothers, Margaret Freeman and Louise Whitley, Marvin and Fred Whitley.

The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Monday in Hunterdale United Church of Christ by the Rev. Dr. Alan Campbell and the Rev. David Johnson. The family will receive friends at the residence and suggests memorial donations may be made to Hunterdale United Church of Christ Building Fund or to a favorite charity.
