JAMES E. JONES

James Edwards Jones, 82, of the 2500 block of Peach St. died Oct. 26, 1997.

Born in Portsmouth, he had retired as an aircraft towman from Norfolk Naval Air Station after 31 years of service. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Board of Trustees and the Crusaders Club.

Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Hendricks Jones; four daughters, Frances Atkinson of Richmond and Mary J. Diggs, Beryl D. Jones and Wanda A. Foster, all of Portsmouth; three sons, Dr. James E. Jones Jr. of Richmond, Reuben Barnes of upper state New York and Derek M. Jones of Upper Marlboro, Md.; a sister; two brothers; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday in Ebenezer Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by Pastor Ben A. Beamer Sr. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake.
