HELEN M. TATE

Helen Mariner Tate, 90, of the 2700 block of Blueberry Bank died Oct. 27, 1997, in her residence.

Born in Danville, Va., she was a homemaker and a member of New Mount Zion Church of God Holiness where she was a member of the usher board and a pastor's aide. She was also a member of Park Place Senior Citizens Center and the Colonial Place Civic League. She was predeceased by a daughter, Gloria Fuller and her parents, Mary Jones Stephens and Harvey Stephens.

Survivors include her husband, Luther J. Tate; a daughter, Delores Cross of Silver Spring, Md.; stepdaughter, Irene Vaughan of Norfolk; three sons, James W. Mariner of Marysville, Calif., Joseph C. Mariner Sr. of Chesapeake, Thomas Mariner of Los Angeles, Calif.; a stepson, Samuel Tate of Norfolk; a sister, Leola Jones of New York, N.Y.; six grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a nephew, Willie Stephens of Virginia Beach; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in New Mount Zion Church of God Holiness, Norfolk, by Elder James Taylor. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at 2526 Rock Creek Drive, Chesapeake, where they will also assemble at 10 a.m. Saturday. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Saturday.
