Black & Decker is recalling about 224,000 cabinet-mounted toasters because they pose a fire danger. The recall affects the Spacemaker Optima Horizontal Toaster, Model T1000 Type I, which has been linked to at least 242 minor fires and two minor injuries, the company said Tuesday. The model T1000 Type I toasters, manufactured between February 1994 and February 1995, have date codes of 405 through 504 on the outside of the plug prong. The model number and type is also on the back of the toaster. The toasters, which were sold nationwide for about $50 each from May 1994 through 1996, are the only Spacemaker Optima horizontal toasters with an open button. Consumers were advised to unplug the toasters, cut the plug off and return the plug to: Black & Decker T1000 Type I Recall, 6 Armstrong Road, Shelton, Conn., 06484. Consumers will get a catalog and a $40 coupon toward the purchase of a new Black & Decker appliance. KEYWORDS: RECALL
