PRINCIPAL HONORED: Susan Nordmann, principal of Kitty Hawk Elementary School, has been selected 1998 Wachovia Principal of the Year for the Dare County Schools in a program co-sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and Wachovia Bank.

Nordmann now moves on to competition with other local award recipients from the Northeastern region of the state.

This is the 15th year Wachovia Bank has sponsored the financial awards. Local principals of the year receive $200. The regional Principal of the Year will receive $2,000 for their school and $2,000 for personal use.

The state Principal of the Year will receive $3,000 for the school and another $3,000 for personal use.

Regional winners will be announced in March and the state winner in May, 1998.

RALEIGH

MAYOR SELECTED FOR MUNICIPAL BOARD: Manteo Mayor Lee Tugwell has been elected to the Board of Directors of the North Carolina League of Municipalities.

He will serve a one-year term on the board. The league is a nonpartisan federation of 514 cities, towns and villages.

Tugwell will represent District 1 of the league, which includes Currituck, Camden, Pasquotank, Gates, Hertford, Bertie, Martin, Washington, Tyrrell and Dare counties.
