With two weeks remaining, Churchland, Booker T. Washington and Lake Taylor share the driver's seat in the Eastern District football race.
All three teams won their games last week, giving them 4-1 district records and thinning out what had been a five-team logjam atop the district standings.
They are a game ahead of the rest of the district.
The Bookers beat Norcom 7-0 in a hotly-contested game Friday at Churchland, all but knocking the Greyhounds out of the race. Booker T. remains at No. 2 in the Virginian-Pilot's South Hampton Roads Poll behind only Western Branch. Churchland remained third and Norcom dropped to a sixth-place tie.
Churchland kept pace with a 19-7 win over Norview Saturday.
Lake Taylor squeaked past Maury Friday, 20-13.
In tonight's action:
Wilson at Churchland - The Truckers avoided a letdown Friday against Norview and look to stay in first place with a win over the Presidents, 0-5 in the district and 1-7 overall. Wilson also is reeling after the resignation last week of coach Jenson Baker. Pick: Churchland, 20-7.
Norcom at Lake Taylor - Lake Taylor would seem to be the favorite with a wealth of emotion and motivation to stay in first place. Plus, the Titans are playing at home. But don't count out the wounded Greyhounds, who would be no worse than a game off the lead with a win. Pick: Lake Taylor, 14-10.
