HEALTH SCREENINGS: Free health screenings for children up to age 4 will be available Nov. 8, from 9 to 11:30 a.m., at Mount Zion Elementary School at 3264 Pruden Blvd. Called ``Child Check,'' the examinations will include checks for possible vision, hearing, speech, language and developmental problems.

VIRGINIA BEACH

OPEN HOUSE: Virginia Wesleyan College will host VWC Day - its annual open house for high school juniors and seniors and their families - on Nov. 15. Those attending will receive a campus tour, meet faculty and administrators, get answers to admissions and financial aid questions, and eat a free lunch in the college cafeteria.

NORFOLK

ODU GROUP REACHES OUT: Town-N-Gown, an independent, informal association dedicated to developing relationships between Old Dominion University and the area's civilian and military communities, is looking for new members. It presents programs and organizes joint activities aimed at fostering appreciation for the mutual assets of the university and its community.

ADULT EDUCATION: The Norfolk Public Schools district will hold registration for its adult education classes on Monday. Classes begin the week of Nov. 10.

There are 26 classes offered, including a high school diploma program, arc welding, auto body repair, auto maintenance, computer keyboarding, investments and financial planning.

PORTSMOUTH

MEETING CHANGE: The Portsmouth School Board will move its work session and board meeting up in November from the usual third and fourth Thursday of the month to allow board members to attend a School Board conference during the fourth week of the month. The board will hold its monthly work session on Nov. 6, and its regular board meeting on Nov. 13.
