Milton Ray Smith, 91, a resident of Portsmouth for 50 years, died Oct. 29, 1997, in a local hospital.
A native of Pitt County, N.C., he was a retired carpenter with 30 years of service. Mr. Smith was a member of Cradock Baptist Church, Lake Drummond Lodge No. 178, A.F. & A.M., and Victory Chapter No. 16, O.E.S.
Survivors include his son, M. Reginald Smith of Chesapeake; a daughter, Esther S. Perry of Suffolk; four grandchildren, Brenda P. Harrell, J.M. Perry III, Nikki and Christina Smith; and four great-grandchildren, Paul Youngk, Jennifer and Wayne Harrell and Sarah Perry. He was predeceased by his wife, James Clara Smith, and his parents, James J. Smith and Emma McCafferty Smith.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Greenlawn Mausoleum Chapel with Masonic rites by Dr. David R. Denny. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. today. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
