KIRK NAMED PROJECT ARCHITECT: Charles Kirk joined the architectural firm of Shriver and Holland Associates. He will be project architect managing project architectural and engineering teams. Kirk, a registered architect, was a project manager with Clark & Nexsen in Norfolk.
STONE NAMED ENGINEER OF THE YEAR: Christopher M. Stone was selected 1997 Engineer of the Year by the Virginia Society of Professional Engineers. Stone is vice president and serves as director of the structural engineering division of Clark & Nexsen.

ATLANTIC PSYCHIATRIC ADDS TO ITS FIRM: Dr. Edwin A. Gatewood III and C. Rick Ellis joined Atlantic Psychiatric Services. Gatewood, a psychiatrist, recently completed his residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School, where he was chief resident. Ellis, a clinical psychologist, was a school psychologist with the Virginia Beach school system.

SLAUGHTER WINS AWARD: The Virginia Society of Professional Engineers awarded its annual Crozet Award to Thomas M. Slaughter, assistant director of engineering/transportation for the city of Newport News. The award is given annually to recognize a state or local government professional engineer who has exhibited outstanding leadership in technical and nontechnical fields as well as public service in the state.
SALSBERRY REJOINS ACCOUNTING FIRM: Lisa B. Salsberry has rejoined the accounting firm of Eason, Lawson & Westphal as a supervisor. Salsberry worked for the company for several years before moving to Pennsylvania, where she worked for Shaffer & Associates, an accounting firm.

PORT AUTHORITY REVENUE REFUNDING BONDS RATED AA BY S&P: Standard & Poor's assigned its AA rating to Virginia Port Authority's Commonwealth Port Fund revenue refunding bonds series 1998, due July 1, 2000-08. Standard & Poor's affirmed its AA rating on the authority's parity Commonwealth Port Fund Bonds. The rating reflects the covenant to request for an appropriation from the commonwealth's general fund in the event there are insufficient revenues from either existing pledged revenues or funds available in the Transportation Trust Fund.
