HAMPTON ROADS

DEVELOPMENT DESIGN AWARDS: The Hampton Roads Association for Commercial Real Estate Excellence in Development Design Awards were presented Oct. 23. The Stormont Co. and the City of Norfolk received a First Honor Award for the Norfolk Waterside Marriott Hotel & Waterside Convention Center.

Also receiving First Honor Awards were: the City of Virginia Beach for the GTE Virginia Beach Amphitheater and the City of Norfolk Department of Development for Harbor Park.

Awards of Merit went to Hamner Development Company for Signet Centre on Jefferson Avenue in Newport News and for Deer Run Commerce Center in Newport News and AVIS Rent A Car Systems Telecommunications and Processing Center for their project in Virginia Beach.

NORFOLK

PRIEST JOINS BANK: Karen Priest has joined Heritage Bank & Trust as branch officer of the new branch office at 4815 Colley Ave. She has 13 years of banking experience.

NEWPORT NEWS

WILSON DIRECTOR OF SOURCING: Veasey W. Wilson was appointed director of sourcing for commercial programs, facilities and services at Newport News Shipbuilding. He was formerly employed by Allied Signal as the director of materials for their commercial avionics systems business unit headquartered in Olathe, Kan.

PENINSULA SHIPYARD'S FIRST ANNUAL REPORT WINS AWARD: Newport News Shipbuilding has won a first place award for its 1996 annual report from American Business Communicators Annual Report Competition. The award recognizes the report's overall quality in both content and design. It was the company's first report as an independent company. Designed by Beatley Gravitt Communications of Richmond, the annual report won in the category for reports produced exclusively by a design firm.

CREDIT UNION WINS COMMUNITY AWARD: Virginia Educators' Credit Union has won a first place award in the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Program for Credit Unions. The program honors credit unions for their involvement in community projects and activities. The credit union was recognized for its efforts in aiding numerous non-profit organizations in the Newport News area, including the Salvation Army.

VIRGINIA BEACH

LAW FIRM RELOCATES: The law firm of Bennett & Stolle has relocated to 607 Lynnhaven Parkway, Suite 200. Their phone number is 486-3100.

CHESAPEAKE

INRECON ACQUIRES ACTION PLUS: INRECON, a Birmingham, Mich.-based disaster and reconstruction services company, acquired Action Plus Services this week. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. This is INRECON's second entry into Virginia. The company also operates an office in Sterling. Action Plus, a commercial reconstruction and cleaning and restoration company, was founded in 1990. Action Plus handled the Princess Anne High School renovation project and is currently working on Zion Baptist Church in Newport News.

VIRGINIA

VIRGINIA POWER FILES TO LOWER RATES - BARELY: Virginia Power proposed to the State Corporation Commission a $45.6 million fuel rate reduction for the utility's Virginia customers. If approved, the reduction would begin Dec. 1 and would reduce the monthly bill of a typical residential customer about 85 cents, from $83.81 to $82.96.
