Pier fishing on Hatteras Island was fairly good at some locations Friday.
A 4 1/2-pound Spanish mackerel, a 7-pound king mackerel, toadfish, scattered gray trout, a few keeper puppy drum and small flounder were taken on Frisco Pier.
Medium-sized sea mullet were caught from Avon Pier throughout most of the day.
Fishing was somewhat slow on Rodanthe Pier, with a keeper puppy drum and a 12-pound striped bass landed.
North of Oregon Inlet, Outer Banks Pier reported lots of small bluefish and a few albacore decked.
Small bluefish were taken steadily all day on Jennette's Pier.
Anglers on Nags Head Pier caught small bluefish and one false albacore.
Small blues also were taken on Avalon Pier.
Five speckled trout were landed from Kitty Hawk Pier at sunrise. Small blues were taken during most of the day.
A few flounder, small puppy drum and small bluefish were landed in the surf along the northern beaches and around Oregon Inlet.
A 13-pound striper was beached at Ramp 27 Friday morning. Small blues and a few puppy drum were landed by surfcasters from Rodanthe to Buxton.
Speckled trout and gray trout fishing was good in the surf near the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse early Friday morning. Some false albacore also were taken in the area. Small bluefish were landed at Cape Point.
Gray trout were landed in the surf at Hatteras Inlet on Thursday evening. A few puppy drum were hauled in along the beach from Ramp 55 to Hatteras Inlet on Friday.
Blue water action was good off Oregon Inlet, with limits of 30- to 50-pound yellowfin tuna and scattered wahoo taken.
King mackerel action was decent off Hatteras, with fish taken weighing as much as 40 pounds. The best fishing was around the bad bottom and the stink wreck.
The water temperature was 63.5 degrees Friday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck and 70 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
