THERE IS A LOT OF WILDLIFE AT KILBY SHORES ELEMENTARY

The Kilby Shores Elementary kids are helping care for a manatee, a whale, a sea turtle and a polar bear that they adopted for about $100 a year through sponsoring environmental organizations. The money helps with their feeding and care.

Newsletters and notes let the schoolchildren know how their adoptees are faring.

The youngsters have named the whale Salt, the polar bear Chilly, and the manatee Success. The turtle had already been named Clara.

``We found out the length of our whale and our art teacher, Angie Salerno, painted one on a wall,'' said Sheila Morris, bookkeeper. ``The entrance of the school has a sign: Caution - Manatee Crossing.''
