Carson Wright Swanger, 85, of the 100 block of Beaumont Court, formerly of Waynesville, N.C., died Oct. 31, 1997, in White Oak Manor Nursing Home, Charleston, S.C.
A native of Haywood County, he was a son of the late Joseph and Beadie Kirkpatrick Swanger. He was a retired self-employed home builder and carpenter.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Rogers Swanger; two daughters, Carolyn Shaw of Summerville and Eunice Damon of San Antonio, Texas; a son, Arvin Swanger of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Eva Clark and Ora Sutton, both of Fines Creek; four brothers, Varnell Swanger, S.T. Swanger and Coleman Swanger, all of Waynesville, and Mark Swanger of Fines Creek; eight grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Waynesville, N.C., by the Rev. Jarvis Teague. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Wells Funeral Home, Waynesville. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Disease Association, P.O. Box 1066, Asheville, N.C. 28802-1066.
