JAMES W. RICHARDSON SR.

James William Richardson Sr., 72, of the 100 block of Gillis Road died Oct. 31, 1997, in Maryview Medical Center.

Born in Williamsburg, S.C., he had retired as a warehouseman from Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 32 years of service. Mr. Richardson was a U.S. Army veteran and an associate member of Virginia Sheriffs' Institute.

Survivors include his wife, Fannie O. Richardson; five daughters, Nellie Spence and Brenda Richardson, both of Portsmouth, Katie Lovejoy of Chesapeake, Kathryn Richardson of Dumfries, Va., and Janet Banks of Williamsburg; three sons, Christopher Richardson and Michael Richardson, both of Portsmouth, James W. Richardson Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters; two brothers; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. W.S. Hampton. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, with military honors. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The body will be taken to the church at noon Wednesday. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
