Walter John Keane Jr., 69, died Nov. 1, 1997, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Keane was born in Mineola, Long Island, N.Y., and was a former resident of Richmond. He was a son of Lois Herz Keane and the late Walter John Keane Sr. He was a graduate of Benedictine High School, Richmond, and a 1955 graduate of VPI. An Army veteran, he served with the Army Corps of Engineers in Germany and was a retired engineer in the Mill Engineering Dept. of Union Camp Corp. John was a longtime Boy Scout leader associated with Franklin Troop 28 and was a 21-year member and past chairman of the Franklin Planning Commission. He was a member of the Franklin Baptist Church and its Chancel Choir.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lucy James Keane; a daughter, Elizabeth W. Richards of Richmond; a son, Robert B. Keane of Savannah, Ga.; a brother, Daniel A. Keane of Richmond; and two grandchildren, Kelsey R. Keane and Matthew I. Keane.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Franklin Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Roy DeBrand and the Rev. Dr. Ira Hudgins. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Franklin Baptist Church or a favorite charity. Wright Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
