WILLIE J. CARTER

Willie James Carter, 98, widower of Fannie Janie Lewis Carter, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 1997.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ida C. Turner. He was a native of Farmville, Va., and a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, Sunday School techer, church treasurer and sexton. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include two daughters, Fannie Bowers of Smithfield and Hattie McDonald of Plano, Texas; three sons, James Carter of Hyattsville, Md., Samuel Carter of Suffolk and Donald Carter of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; a sister, Hattie Davis of Smithfield; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Zuni, by the Rev. John B. Townsell. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The casket will be in church from 11 a.m. until the funeral time. Visitation will be from 3 to 7:30 p.m. today in Pretlow & Chapman Funeral Home. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
