Elvin Maston Deuell, 92, died Monday, Nov. 3, 1997, in Riverside Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Surry County to the late Nanny Cora Pond and John Whitfield Deuell. He was a Newport News resident most of his life.
Mr. Deuell was a member of Morrison United Methodist Church. He worked as a welder for Newport News Shipbuilding and later retired from Horne Brothers.
Survivors include his daughter, Elizabeth Jane Knies of Newport News; his son, M. Eugene Dewell of Cary, N.C.; his younger brother, Herman W. Deuell, and his wife, Myrtle, of Newport News; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Deuell was the next to the last in a family of 10 and is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Deuell was very active, still driving and living independently well past his 92nd birthday. He was recently visited by all of his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
