PORTSMOUTH POLICE INVESTIGATE ATTEMPTED ABDUCTION OF BOY, 8

Police are investigating the attempted abduction of an 8-year-old boy about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The child reported that a man pulled up to him in a pickup truck as he was roller-blading in the 1200 block of Jewell Ave.

The driver tried to lure the child into the truck, the boy said, but the boy ran away and summoned help.

The suspect was described as black, possibly in his 30s, more than 6 feet tall and weighing about 180 pounds. He was wearing a red checked shirt, blue jeans and blue shoes.

He may have stitches from his elbow to his wrist, police said.

He drove a pickup truck - possibly a Chevrolet - with faded red paint, a missing rear bumper and a yellow sticker in the rear window.

Anyone with information should call Portsmouth Crime Line at 488-7777.
