SONJA COOPER REED

Sonja Cooper Reed, 62, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1997, after a long illness.

Born in Fitzgerald, Ga., she graduated from Tennessee Temple University in 1955 with a bachelor's degree in English and had lived in Hampton four years.

Mrs. Reed was a member of First Baptist Church, Norfolk. She had been a contributing editor to ``Doll World Magazine'' and was active in International Cooperating Ministries and Trans World Radio.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Burton J. Reed; two daughters, Tamara R. Diller of Pandera, Ohio, and Valerie R. Beaverson of Indianapolis, Ind.; three sons, Lee W. Reed of Lakeland, Fla., Larry R. Reed of Oak Park, Ill. and Timothy W. Reed of Newport News; two brothers, John W. Cooper of Milledgeville, Ga. and George D. Cooper of Vienna, Austria; and 14 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, Hampton, and from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church, Norfolk. A funeral will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday in the church by Dr. Robert E. Reccord. The remains will then be transferred to Child's Funeral Home, Bluffton, Ohio, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday in Maple Grove Cemetery, Bluffton, by the Rev. Clark Williman.
