RED DRUM WINNERS: Bill Kennedy of Virginia Beach won the 1997 Red Drum Casting Tournament with a 669.69-foot beach cast.
Angel Villalpando of Virginia Beach took second place with a 591.80-foot cast. Howard Cator of Buxton won third place with a 570.23-foot cast. Noreen Reasor of Buxton won ladies' first place with a 289 foot cast.
Harold Wilson of Forest, Va., won in the last hour of the 64-hour tournament with a 44 1/2-inch red drum. Bill Rudd of Richmond took second place with a 44 1/4-inch red drum. Third place went to Frank Schwartz of Raleigh with a 24 3/4-inch red drum. Harold Philbrick of Chesapeake won the senior angler division with a 19-inch red drum.
Ron Parenti of Avon won longest bluefish with a 15 1/4-inch catch. Cathy Mann of Davis, N.C., won longest bluefish by a lady, with a 14 1/4-inch fish. Joe Baccino of Wilmington, Del., won longest bluefish by a senior with a 14 1/4-inch fish. Billy Rudd, 8, of Richmond won the junior division with a 12 3/4-inch bluefish.
Oct. 23 team winners were Team Shimano: Cathy Mann, Davis,; Brenda Simmons, Heaters, W.Va.; Jungle Jim Fonner, Heaters; and Billy Rudd, Richmond.
Oct. 24 team winners were Howard's Team: Don Hulms, Salem, N.J.; Jim Craven, Pennsville, N.J.; Sam Lairson, Salem, N.J.; Don Smith, Pennsville, N.J.; Ron Parenti, Avon; and Howard Cator, Buxton.

DUCKS UNLIMITED BANQUET: The Cape Hatteras chapter of Ducks Unlimited will hold its annual fundraising banquet at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at the Cape Hatteras Anglers Club in Buxton.
There will be an auction, raffle, and door prizes.
The cost of the banquet is $45 per person, which includes dinner, beverages, and a $25 membership in Ducks Unlimited. Tickets for couples will be available for $65, which will include two dinners and one membership in Ducks Unlimited. Tickets are available from Ducks Unlimited committee members or at the door.

CHARITABLE GIVING WORKSHOP: The Outer Banks Community Foundation will sponsor a workshop on what is new in the tax code, what charitable trusts are and what is in store for capital gains taxes and estate taxes.

FOOD LION CAMPAIGN: Albemarle Manna will receive donations collected during Food Lion's 1997 Consumer Sharing Checkout Donation program, FOOD FOR ALL: Fighting Hunger in Our Neighborhood and Around the World. The campaign is part of the company's participation in the 12th annual Food Industry Crusade Against Hunger.
Food Lion's Consumer Sharing Checkout Donation program has contributed more than $727,600 to crusade programs since 1991. The money that Albmarle Manna receives from Food Lion's efforts will be used to help provide more than 600,000 meals to men, women and children in Northeastern North Carolina.
HOST AN EXCHANGE STUDENT: Pacific Intercultural Exchange needs families of all types to host a high school exchange student in January.
Students arrive from various countries - South Africa, Germany, Spain, Russia, Finland and many others. Host families may choose a male or female, ages 15 to 18, all with various interests and hobbies matched to the family.
Students arrive the second or third week of January with their own spending money for clothes, entertainment and other expenses. They have their own medical insurance as well.
Host families agree to room and board and to include them as a family member. All students speak English.

RALEIGH
HERTFORD BUILDER WINS: The North Carolina Home Builders Association has recognized Michael Brusko of Michael Brusko Design/Build Inc. in Hertford as the grand winner in North Carolina's 1997 Award of Excellence competition. He received a plaque and recognition in the North Carolina Builder, the magazine of NCHBA and the program's sponsor.
Entries were judged on practicality of design, appearance, marketability, site selection and use, quality, energy efficiency, environmental impact, style and unusual design features. To be eligible, builders must be members of NCHBA.
VIRGINIA
LOCAL ARTISTS IN SHOW: Five local residents will participate in the 15th Annual Christmasfest Art & Craft Show at Hampton University's Convocation Center on Emancipation Drive Nov. 22 and 23.
