THOMAS J. CLAUD

Thomas Jefferson Claud of Newtown Drive died Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997, in Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin.

A native of Southampton County, Va., he was a retired farmer and a member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church, Newsoms.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie Claud; four daughters, Virgie Ricks of Franklin, Elsie B. Gary and Nina Clasp, both of Capron, and Mary Lizzie Claud of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sons, Johnnie Lewis Claud of Hampton and William Henry Claud of Capron; a sister, Etta C. ``Hoochi'' Ridley of Newsoms; 38 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Bryant Baptist Church, Courtland, by Elder Albert Evans. Burial will be in Pine Level Cemetery, Capron. The remains will be placed in the church for viewing at noon Sunday. William M. Johnson & Sons Inc. is in charge of arrangements. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
