Police arrested a 29-year-old man Friday and charged him with murder in the death of his 17-month-old niece.
Police said James A. Young, of the 200 block of West Bay Avenue, was baby-sitting Whitney J. Temple Thursday night and called 911 because she was unconscious.
Paramedics arrived at the home at 10:08 p.m. and pronounced the toddler dead about 10:15 p.m., said Maravia Ebong, police spokeswoman. Whitney died of a ``blunt force'' injury to the stomach , Ebong said.
Ebong said that no information was available about the child's parents. Apparently, Young's wife was the girl's legal guardian. KEYWORDS: ARREST MURDER CHILD ABUSE
