Pier action along the northern beaches slowed Friday.
A few puppy drum and bluefish were caught on Kitty Hawk Pier. A small striper was released.
Six keeper stripers were landed from Avalon Pier on cut bait during the morning. Afternoon fishing was slow.
Anglers on Nags Head Pier landed a handful of small bluefish, sea mullet and flounder off and on during the day.
A few stripers and a few speckled trout were taken from Jennette's Pier during the morning, and several keeper puppy drum were landed in the afternoon.
South of Oregon Inlet, Hatteras Island Pier reported a few keeper puppy drum and a few sea mullet taken.
Seven nice striped bass were caught on cut bait on Avon Pier.
Lots of sea mullet and tailor blues were landed at Frisco Pier. Some small flounder and under-sized puppy drum were released.
Scattered stripers were landed on cut bait and lures along the northern beaches and around Oregon Inlet Friday.
Stripers along with small bluefish and a few puppy drum were hauled in by surf fishermen from Rodanthe to Buxton. Scattered drum were beached north of Avon Pier.
One big drum, a 40-inch striper and good numbers of puppy drum were taken at Cape Point. Two- to three-pound blues were landed along the beach south of the Cape.
Action along the beach from Ramp 55 to Hatteras Inlet was a bit slow. with a few puppy drum, small blues and sea mullet appearing in catches.
Although only a few boats fished, blue water action was good off Oregon Inlet. Charters landed 50- to 60-pound tuna and a couple of wahoo. A sailfish was released by the Outer Limits.
Twelve-to 15-pound king mackerel were caught off Hatteras in the bad bottom area.
The water temperature was 61 degrees Friday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 66 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
