Sam Allen Howard Sr., 76, of the 200 block of York Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 9, 1997.
A native of Rocky Mount, N.C., he had retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a machinist in Shop 31 and from the city of Portsmouth as a supervisor in building and maintenance. He was a member of Fairview Heights Baptist Church and the Berean-Ideal Sunday School Class. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Blanche E. Howard; two daughters, Donna Jean Collins and husband, Charles T., Susan Lynn Chadwick and husband, Wallace W. Jr., all of Chesapeake; a son, Sam Allen Howard Jr. and wife, Brenda C., of Chesapeake; a sister, Ruby V. Havner of Portsmouth; a brother, Melvin P. Howard of Rocky Mount; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Fairview Heights Baptist Church by Dr. Ted Barton. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials may be made to Fairview Heights Baptist Church. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
